A volte questo materiale composito in fibra viene anche chiamato &#8220;fibra di vetro&#8221;. Sebbene le plastiche rinforzate con fibre di vetro non siano particolarmente rigide, sono molto resistenti alla corrosione. Le plastiche rinforzate con fibre di vetro sono quindi spesso utilizzate per la costruzione di container o scafi di imbarcazioni. I componenti realizzati con materiali plastici rinforzati con fibre aramidiche sono altamente resistenti alle sollecitazioni (impatto e abrasione) e hanno un&#8217;ottima resistenza chimica. Inoltre, i componenti AFK sono particolarmente leggeri. Nella produzione di plastiche rinforzate con fibre naturali, di solito utilizziamo le fibre naturali di lino, canapa, iuta e sisal. La produzione di NFRP a partire da altre fibre naturali \u00e8 ovviamente possibile. La fibra naturale conferisce al materiale composito una particolare stabilit\u00e0.
