Los pl\u00e1sticos reforzados con fibra de carbono se fabrican sobre todo para \u00e1mbitos en los que se requiere una gran robustez y rigidez con un peso reducido. A veces, este material compuesto de fibras tambi\u00e9n se denomina \u00abfibra de vidrio\u00bb. Aunque los pl\u00e1sticos reforzados con fibra de vidrio no son especialmente r\u00edgidos, son muy resistentes a la corrosi\u00f3n. Por eso, los pl\u00e1sticos reforzados con fibra de vidrio se utilizan a menudo para la construcci\u00f3n de contenedores o cascos de barcos. Los componentes fabricados con pl\u00e1sticos reforzados con fibra de aramida son muy resistentes a la tensi\u00f3n (al impacto y a la abrasi\u00f3n) y tienen una resistencia qu\u00edmica excepcionalmente buena. Adem\u00e1s, los componentes de AFK son especialmente ligeros. En la producci\u00f3n de pl\u00e1sticos reforzados con fibras naturales, solemos utilizar las fibras naturales de lino, c\u00e1\u00f1amo, yute y sisal.
